A cafe is offering up a modern kind of afternoon tea, after hiring a top pastry chef to make handmade pastries and a new menu, as the whole cafe has recently undergone a refurbishment.

Paula Murchison is the new pastry chef at The Wild Strawberry in Keswick, and has made the move from Sharrow Bay, where she was Head Pastry Chef, and has been trained under the Roux Brothers in Amsterdam, some of the world's most prolific pastry chefs.

Owners of the cafe, Chris and Emma Bray, bought the cafe in 2017 and made it into a creperie, and have carried out a major refurbishment during lockdown.

Much of the work was carried out by Chris with the help of local craft and tradespeople.

The cafe say their new look is light and modern, but retains the traditional feel of one of the oldest buildings in Keswick.

The couple also gave the outside courtyard a makeover providing customers space to relax in the open air away from the bustle of Main Street.

The afternoon tea is traditional, but with a modern twist, which showcases Paula's patisserie skills.

Emma Bray said: "It is a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.

"We are so delighted that Paula has joined us."

Head chef, Conor Johnson has also redesigned the savoury menu.

The cafe continues to offer the crepes that it is known for, but has added a range of salads, deli-sandwiches and savoury pastries to the menu with various began options.
