A children's clothing and gift shop has had to put away its toys but, instead, has created two indoor gardens for children to enjoy.

Mini Eden in Kirkby Stephen sells recycled, end of line handmade in Cumbria and Fairtrade goods as well as running a cafe.

The business was opened in 2017 by Kirkby Stephen resident, Linnhe Harrison, who, like many business owners, is trying to go forward despite all the regulations.

She said the children's towy she usually had out had to packed away and she needed to think of something else to make parents feel confident about brining their children into the cafe.

The result is the new gardens to explore.

They include infinity mirrors and the odd surprise such as spotting Kirkby Steph parrot in the trees.

" These are safe spaces, designed for families to enjoy together whilst we adjust to the new normal." the owner said.

Local carpenter Wayne McLay has taken her ideas and made them a reality, creating user friendly indoor green spaces.

Mini Eden is also extending its food offer to include brunch, with the menu to include Sourdough toast with toppings from award-winning Ivy Cottage Bakery.

The majority of food sold in the cafe is sourced in Cumbria where possible.

The toys have always been available in the past to give locals and visitors the chance to enjoy a coffee while the children are playing.

Sanitary conditions no longer allows that, however.

The indoor gardens opened at the weekend.
