IT was the year the Queen marked half a century on the throne, and visited Cumbria as part of a nationwide series of events.
Seems hard to believe that that was 18 years ago now (and Her Majesty has long since passed the record to become our longest-reigning monarch ever).
We have had a dip in the picture archives to find this other selection of the comings and goings of Cumbrian life in 2002.
From taking a walk on the wild side with botanist Dr David Bellamy to proud Wigton dog-owners sponsoring a guide dog for the blind (and with that year’s bonniest baby added for good measure), we hope you enjoy a trip down memory lane.
And if you or a loved one were in the picture do let us know! Share your memories at letters.carlisle@cnmedia.co.uk
