A SUICIDE awareness charity has spoken of the need for people to reach out as World Suicide Prevention Day arrives.

Every Life Matters have been working hard providing more than 150 information packs to be used by many organisations across south Cumbria as part of suicide prevention training.

Chris Wood, development manager at Every Life Matters, said: "We are going to be doing a trainathon.

"We will be training 200 people from across the county in a simple one hour suicide awareness program.

"It will teach the myths and facts about suicide. The idea is to help people understand how they can help prevent suicide.

"We are also encouraging people to take part in the remembrance at 8pm where they will light a candle to remember those we have lost to suicide.

"We will also be supporting the Orange Button campaign in Cumbria which has been launched today.

"We want people to reach out who need it, and others to reach out to them."
