THE financial effects of Covid 19 have been laid bare by South Lakeland District Council - with the authority's deficit sitting at £2.9 million.
Councillor Andrew Jarvis presented the up-to-date financial figures - revealing that the impact of the pandemic had seen a loss of £1.7 million income from caravan parks and car parks.
Around £2 million has been spent from the reserves. He said some losses, to the tune of £1.4m, will be offset from the government.
"Despite spending £2 million from our reserves alone, the bins will still need to be emptied, licences issued and projects pursued," he said.
“Lower borrowing costs will help on council projects going forward," he said. "Employee costs are however below budget by five per cent, including contract and agency staff."
