A MUM has thanked the Barrow community for raising nearly a thousand pounds for her daughter who has a rare brain condition.

Parents Laura Dearden and Jonathan Mould are ‘beyond grateful’ to the waves of donations given towards helping the family move into house with more outdoor space to benefit their one-year-old daughter Savannah.

Savannah was recently diagnosed with Lissencephaly - a rare disorder in which a baby's brain doesn't develop folds or grooves.

The disorder means Savannah may not develop past the age of five months.

After her diagnosis, the couple created a GoFundMe page to help fundraise money towards a deposit for a new home as their current flat presents a number of health concerns with Savannah’s conditions.

The family are concerned that the cold and damp, which they say is also causing mould at their current address, could exacerbate Savannah’s seizures.

Since launching the page, the family has been inundated with donations, with some kind Samaritans even dropping cash through the family’s door.

Miss Dearden said she is ‘overwhelmed’ with the kindness of the community.

“We’ve raised £680 on the GoFundMe page and £200 in case from people giving money through our door,” she said.

“A lot of charities have also reached out to us and said they wanted to help us get grants for equipment and sensory toys.

“The support has just been incredible.”

Miss Dearden said it is ‘amazing’ how the community is helping her baby have the ‘best life possible’.

She said: “I’m not from Barrow originally, and my other half kept saying how much of a supportive community it is and the response to this fundraiser has proven that.

“The community seems to have really banded together for my baby which I couldn’t be more grateful for.

“It's absolutely mind blowing honestly how the town has really come together, and took our daughter under their wing.

“It’s amazing how complete strangers are helping my family like this.

“It just melts out heart and we feel so grateful. Savannah gets recognised on the bus now, people say ‘is that the baby from the paper?’

“People keep saying they are praying for her and setting up fundraising events for her. It’s just amazing.”

Miss Dearden reiterated how important it would be to be able to give her daughter outdoor space in a new house.

“It would just mean the world to get her a garden and trees," she said.

"Anything that stimulates her brain gives her the best chance.

“Our current house has damp and could actually cause Savannah issues so we want to move as soon as possible.

“She loves trees and nature so we think the stimulation would really help her.

“It would change our lives.”
