A former Askam student who now flies across the world piloting British Airways' flights is set to give a talk for the Barrow & District Association of Engineers (BDAE).

As part of their series of engineering lectures, the group will welcome former Chetwynde student Ryan Clyde for a talk on Zoom on September 17 at 7.30pm

Mr Clyde, familiar to many in the area, was propelled into the spotlight three years ago as part of ITV’s docu-series 'easyJet: Inside the Cockpit'.

The cameras followed the final stages of his easyJet training including his first landings, at the age of just 21.

Since then, Ryan has joined British Airways and has now flown over 1200 flights to Europe, the Middle East and other destinations.

He will describe the process of his pilot training journey as well as how more recent world developments will affect the industry.

The talk will also look to the future: including the ever-rumoured return of super-sonic aircraft, the growing influence of automation and the technology behind it and the increasing use of GPS.

Charles Rowntree, vice president of BDAE, said: “We were very pleased when Ryan agreed to give this talk, especially as a local and one of our previous Bursary Award winners. He is fulfilling his dream and is a good example to all the aspiring students in the local area. It is also pleasing that despite this talk being agreed months before the pandemic, he has remained undeterred and is prepared to give this talk virtually on “Zoom”.
