A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued to the vast majority of the county across this weekend.

The yellow warning for heavy rain extends across the county, barring the Whitehaven area.

It also extends across most of western and southern England, and eastern Scotland.

Wales and the south west of England, as well as parts of the east coast of Scotland, have been issued the more serious amber warning for rain.

The yellow weather warning for Cumbria is in place from 3am tomorrow until midday, and for the same hours on Sunday.

The Met Office is warning that heavy rain "may bring some flooding and transport disruption".

"Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings," a spokesman outlined.

"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life. Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible, [and] spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures."

Communities in more low-lying areas are being warned that they could be "cut off" by flooded roads.

There may also be "power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."
