KESWICK Museum has appointed a new curator - who previously worked at The Beacon, in Whitehaven.

Nicola Lawson has worked in the museum sector since 2015 and takes over for the last six months of the Keswick venue's £125k Exhibitions 2020 project.

Supported through The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Friends of Keswick Museum, the project has seen the museum's two main galleries transformed.

Nicola was previously graduate trainee curator at The Beacon Museum.

In Whitehaven she delivered full accredited status for the museum, and developed exhibitions such as Edith Brown: Medicine Woman (part of the Celebrating Women of Cumbria project).

Keswick Museum is home to a collection that represents the town and surrounding area covering areas such as social history, art, archaeology, literature, geology, natural history and industrial history.

It is working hard to bounce back from the impact of covid, and Nicola is looking forward to being part of its recovery.

The museum is currently open 12pm-4pm daily and is gearing up for its new events programme, including storytelling sessions and a Where’s Wally trail throughout the venue.

Nicola said: “I have lived in Cumbria for five years and I absolutely love its varied history.

"I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Keswick Museum at such an exciting time.

"I’m looking forward to working with their wonderful collection.”

She will be working with the museum’s dedicated volunteers to develop an exhibition of the artwork of James Durden.
