Police are appealing for information from the public after an arson attack in a home.

Officers are investigating the deliberate fire after being called to The Sands, in Appleby, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Three fire engines also attended the incident, at about 1.35am, which was in a first floor flat.

They used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were on scene for almost two hours.

A 31-year-old man from Appleby was subsequently arrested on suspicion of arson and has since been released under investigation.

Investigating officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage from the area is urged to come forward.

They are asked to call PC 2715, at Cumbria police, on 101, quoting incident number six of October 21.
