Severe weather expected today has caused cancellations or delays to train services between Preston and Carlisle.

A yellow flood warning for Cumbria and parts of Scotland means that trains have to run at reduced to speed on all lines. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast said: "Customers are requested to check before they travel as their journey may take longer or will require them to change trains during the course of their journey."

The speed restrictions have been imposed by Network Rail on services between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh, Manchester Airport and Glasgow, and Liverpool and Glasgow.

Avanti West Coast will convey passengers via any reasonable route until further notice. TransPennine Express tickets will be accepted for these journeys.

The severe weather also means TransPennine Express Services meant to start from Liverpool Lime Street at 08:12 to Glasgow Central will now terminate at Preston.

Services meant to start from Manchester Airport at 14:07 to Edinburgh will now start at Preston.
