THE leader of the Northern Research Group met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to discuss the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on the north of England.

Jake Berry, the leader of the NRG and MP for Darwen and Rossendale, said: "We welcome the Chancellor meeting with us to discuss the affect this virus is having on our communities and our region’s economy and to respond to our suggestions as outlined in our letter to the Prime Minister on the 26 October.

"The Chancellor made it clear he was focused on our region’s recovery from this virus and – as a Northern MP himself – is sympathetic to the arguments made by members.

"The NRG is committed to working constructively with Government to level up the North, develop and Northern Economic Recovery Plan and build back better after Covid."
