Plans for plant that converts natural gas into electricity have been submitted.

Shap Energy Generation Ltd has lodged plans with Eden Council to build the facility on land near the village to the east of the A6.

According to the design and access statement: “It will use natural gas to power engines which will in turn generate electricity that will be exported to the local and National Grid in times of demand.

“The Proposed Development comprises five gas engines situated within a generation station building with a total electrical output of total of 22.5MW.

“The development will act as a ‘peaking plant’ providing electricity to the National Grid during times of peak demand.

“The plant will not operate full time but intermittently as demand requires.

“It is anticipated that the engines will generate electricity for approximately 4,000 hours per year.”

A public consultation will end on November 25.
