An arrest has been made in relation to a rape that occurred on Halloween.

Officers arrested a 35-year-old man from Cleator Moor, at about 2pm today, on suspicion of rape.

It comes after a girl in her late teens was attacked in Moor Row, at a path near the junction with Dalzell Street, between 3.30pm-5.30pm on Saturday, October 31.

Officers received the report on November 13.

The victim is currently being supported by officers.

Police are continuing their appeal, urging anyone who may have seen anything at the time to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Scott said: “Incidents such as this are very rare but, the community can take reassurance that we have a team of detectives continuing to investigate the report.

“A man has been arrested and currently remains in police custody.

“This investigation continues to be in its early stages, and we continue our appeal for any information that could help us with our investigation.

"Anything, no matter how small, could help, and I would encourage anyone with any information to please contact us as it may assist our investigation.”
