Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a daylight knifepoint robbery at a motorway service station.

The terrifying incident took place at the Welcome Break Services on the M74, just outside Gretna.

At about 1pm on Monday, a 34-year-old man was forced by another man at knifepoint to withdraw money from an ATM at the service station.

According to the Dumfries and Galloway Police Division, this individual then fled the scene in a small white van, accompanied by another man.

One suspect is described as white, in his 40s or 50s, 5ft 10in, with short grey hair and grey stubble. He was wearing a grey jumper and blue jeans.

The other suspect is described as being about 20 years old, with short brown hair. He was wearing a black and yellow hooded top.

Detective Sergeant Mark McLachlan, from Dumfries CID said that this was "obviously a very frightening experience" for the victim.

"It is vital that we catch the suspects as they may very well do this to others.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the two men hanging around the service station or may have seen them or captured them on dash cam footage is asked to contact police at Dumfries immediately, quoting incident number 1622 of November 23 2020."
