BARROW MP calls for the continuation of defence investment into the community from the Government.
Addressing Westminster, Simon Fell said: “The Prime Minister tells us that it’s his mission to level up the country. For my community it is a welcomed prospect.
“We built the nuclear deterrent, and when I say we I mean 10,000 of the most skilled world leading workers you can imagine.
“Building submarines, with a complexity that’s rivalled perhaps only by what NASA does. The work in the Yard is the heart, then supply chain is the blood in our communities.
“The supply chain spend alone was one billion pounds in 2019 from the submarine programme. This supports 80 plus businesses in Cumbria.
“In Furness, defence spending isn’t just about submarines, it’s about backing education and skills. I welcome the upcoming Defence and Security Industrial Strategy where I hope more of this will come to my community where it is badly needed.”
