A horse has been put down following a serious road traffic collision.
Police are appealing for information on the incident, which took place at about 2.50pm yesterday (December 30) on the A6 at Clifton.
A horse and rider sustained serious injuries following a collision with a Land Rover.
The 20-year-old rider was taken to James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough via air ambulance.
Her injuries remain serious but stable.
A vet attended the scene, and the horse was put to sleep.
The driver of the Land Rover, a Penrith man in his 70s, was uninjured.
The road was closed until just before 9pm whilst emergency services attended the scene.
Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to it and has yet to come forward is asked to contact Sergeant 1962 Vickers or PC 2499 Patterson on 101, referencing incident 118 of December 30, 2020.
