A weather warning has been issued for ice by the Met Office for large parts of Cumbria.

The yellow warning - the lowest of three warnings issued - will cover all of north Cumbria and central Cumbria and parts of west Cumbria.

It will come into force at 6pm today until 11am tomorrow (January 10).

The warning states that icy stretches may lead to some difficult driving conditions.

What to expect:

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces;
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

"Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow are expected this evening and overnight leading to a risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces, especially where snow has been melting during the day," the warning states.

The Met Office says that the conditions are "likely" but will have only a "low impact".
