Libraries in Cumbria are closed for browsing and general access, in line with government guidance - but they can still continue to operate a small number of services.

According to Cumbria County Council, the following services are still available; a Select and Collect service for books and hearing aid batteries; provide online services; run the home delivery service; provide access to library premises to support community learning and skills classes; and facilitate digital access for those with essential needs.

Libraries are permitted, by a Government exemption, to offer library members access to the public PC network for essential use if they can't otherwise access a PC/laptop or the internet.

Essential needs can include job applications, benefit applications, accessing public services, financial information, online banking, for educational purposes, to keep in touch with family members or to support their mental health. Booking is essential for this service.

To use the service contact the libraries (a list is available on the Cumbria County Council website) to book a 45 minute slot.

It is not possible to just turn up without a booking. There will be a limited number of PCs and time slots available.

Cleaning will take place in between each customer, but the session time is 45 minutes. Staff will not be able to offer PC support, due to social distancing.
