Our Junior School is for children aged 3-11 years and is situated on the glorious Elleray estate. We have created an environment where education is not just a journey; it is an adventure!

As well as our innovative curriculum, which is designed to develop articulate and confident children, the one thing that makes our Junior School truly special is the children themselves. The unique family atmosphere is evident the moment you walk through our blue doors. Our children are proud of their school family and learn to look after themselves and each other within our caring community.

Staff are inspired by the curiosity and thirst for learning that each child, regardless of their academic ability, naturally holds within themselves. Our task is to encourage each child to grow and learn. We allow them to ask 'why', to experiment, to challenge, to discover and to innovate. Language, literacy and numeracy are fundamental but learning how to understand and translate ideas into action are essential life skills that will sustain a lifetime of learning. Our pupils thrive as part of our small classes and are prepared for Senior School without the pressures of external assessments.

Cumberland & Westmorland Gazette:

Pupils benefit from specialist teaching in all aspects of the curriculum and enjoy many opportunities to explore art, drama, music during the week. One of the highlights of the children's week is their Adventure lesson. Pupils take part in a whole afternoon of Adventure every week beginning from Year 3. Our Adventure Programme incorporates water-based sports such as sailing or kayaking at our private watersports centre. In addition, the programme includes activities such as camping, fell and mountain walking, survival skills, navigation skills and orienteering. Each child completes their own Adventure Log Book, which aims to encourage and develop their practical skills.

At the end of the School day, pupils have the opportunity to choose from one of our many after-school activities. There are so many options to choose from, including arts and crafts, sports, music and games. Our extensive programme provides an unmissable opportunity for children to explore their interests.

Whether pupils are taking part in Forest School, den building, reading books in caves, or performing on our outdoor stage, there is both challenge and enjoyment. There is a warmth, vibrancy and kindness at Elleray that makes it an extraordinary place to learn.
