A privately owned estate near Keswick has gone on the market for the first time in 100 years.

The Higham Estate on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake, went on the market with Edwin Thompson last week.

The estate is home to popular local business, The Lakes Distillery and has been owned by the Fisher family since it's purchase in 1904.

The estate's price has not been revealed.

It is on sale via private treaty with the six restore properties being on offer as a bulk lot or for 12 individual buyers.

There is also 979 acres of farmland and 178 acres of commercial woodland included within the site.

Elva Plain Farm,a traditional farmhouse with four bedrooms and wide range of buildings and Low Barkhouse, which has been home to The Lake's Distillery since the opening of the business in 2014.

The distillery however will be safe whoever buys the property due to a long term lease they hold until 2037

There are also some additional features that may generate the gaze of interested buyers.

Higham estate boasts ownership of Eel Settings fishing beat on the River Derwent, a popular and well known part of the river to catch salmon as they flow to the sea.

As well as this, part of the Higham Land has rented part of their property out to Cockermouth Golf Course lets out part of the estate.
