It's no surprise that spending quality time with some furry – and adorable – friends has a positive impact on our wellbeing, and one interactive farm is hoping to see everybody reap the benefits of a snuggle with a pig or a wander with a llama.

Since opening its doors almost one year ago, The Woolly Farm at Santon Bridge has offered visitors some top experiences, from meet-and-greets with a range of farm animals, including goats, pigs, sheep and a donkey, to treks up the West Cumbrian fells.

But after having to "let people down" by not having accessible facilities, Woolly Farm co-owner Amy Armitage-Reay is hoping the community can help change that.

"So many people have told us how much better they feel after spending time with the animals, and it always breaks my heart to tell people with special requirements that they can't have a certain experience," she said.

"We really want everybody to be able to visit and have an amazing time, because everybody deserves to, no matter what their situation is."

The farm has therefore launched a Crowdfunder page, with all money raised going towards creating two miles of winding paths suitable for wheelchair users, installing a wheelchair-friendly toilet, and purchasing three off-road wheelchairs for visitors to use.

Amy, who owns the farm with her husband, Dan, said: "It's been a horrendous year for so many businesses, and we've really suffered as well, and that's why we need some support with this.

"It's been so, so difficult. This is our livelihood – we've put all our money into it, and we want it to be a success for us and for those who want to visit us.

"It would mean so much if people could help us with this, because we just want everybody to experience the farm, and not have to worry about whether they can visit or not."

She continued: "Living without a disability, or any special requirements, we don't think about how everyday things like access to a useable toilet affect us – we just don't think about it.

"We want everybody to be able to do that when they visit us, because it's so important that people can do what makes them happy, and visit our gorgeous animals, make special memories and just have a really fantastic time."

The animal lover added that while every penny donated is appreciated, the Crowdfunder is an "all or nothing", meaning all contributors will get their money back if the £63,000 target isn't met.

Amy added: "It would be an absolute miracle if we could hit the target, but I'm not expecting to – we'll just keep our fingers crossed, and hope for the best!"
