A DRINK driver who was stopped at over twice the drink drive limit has been handed a suspended sentence after he admitted carrying a knife.

Craig Dobbin, 33, of William Morris Avenue, Cleator Moor, appeared at Workington Magistrates Court on Friday.

He faced one charge of drink driving and one charge of possessing a bladed article relating to an incident on May 19. The court heard he drove his Ford Focus on Kier Hardy Avenue in Cleator Moor with 82mg of alcohol on 100ml of breath. The limit is 35mg.

Dobbin admitted the charge, and was handed a 14 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He must also abstain from alcohol for 90 days.

The starting point for the offence would normally be six months custody, but the sentence was suspended due to the defendant's mental health, lack of previous convictions, and a real prospect of rehabilitation.

He was also banned from driving for two years, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128, and £85 costs. The knife was forfeited and destroyed.
