A STATE of the art children's play park has opened to a great reception.

The St George's Road park in Millom has undergone an incredible £200,000 transformation, much to the delight of youngsters in the area.

Construction began at the park on January 4 after receiving the funding from Copeland Council.

The park contains everything from climbing towers and slides to group swings and spinning equipment.

There is even a train, complete with a train track, and a huge pirate ship ready for children to go on swashbuckling adventures.

One Millom resident, Diane Fallows, took her young daughter Layla to explore the park upon it's opening.

She said: "Layla thought it was absolutely fantastic, the best park ever - her words!"

It is hoped that once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted the town will be able to host an official open day for the community to come together and celebrate the creation of the park.

Councillor Simon Donnelly said: "Wow we are open finally!

"When all of the restrictions are lifted we will have an open day, but until then I hope everyone enjoys the new park.

"The feed back has been unbelievable.

"But projects like this can't happen without the right people.

"First I would like to thank our funders - the Town's Fund and FCC Communities Foundation who both made extremely generous contributions working closely with Cllr Jenn Jakubowski as well as successive Mayors Angela Dixon and Ruth Peter for their vision for the park development, Playdale and their professionalism and expertise.

"We're not done yet - we will continue to raise funds for further development of Millom and Haverigg parks.

"So the future looks bright for Millom and Haverigg."
