A DANGEROUS drunk driver will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court after admitting a string of charges.

Jamie Gilbert, 27, of Ruggles Lane, Carlisle, appeared at the city's magistrates' court on Monday.

He had been charged with drunk driving, failing to stop after an accident, and dangerous driving.

All three charges related to an incident on April 2 in Carlisle. The court heard Gilbert drove his Honda on London Road with 55mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.

He then failed to stop after having an accident that caused damage to property, namely a traffic light post.

Gilbert admitted drunk driving and failing to stop, and indicated he would plead guilty to a further charge of dangerous driving relating to the same incident.

He was released on unconditional bail and will appear at Carlisle Crown Court on July 20 for sentencing.
