A west Cumbrian community garden group is hoping to turn its fortunes around by applying for funding to give its gardens a face-lift.
The Beck Bottom Community Garden in Hensingham, Whitehaven is applying for £10,000 of the Cumbria County Council's Environment Fund.
The funding would be used to improve footpaths at the garden and create a new wildlife area.
Chairman of the community garden group and Cumbria County Councillor, Mike Hawkins, said: "We're working closely with the new parks manager at Copeland, who's really interested in helping us.
"It's an area of the town that used to be maintained, but it's been neglected for a number of years and we want to bring it back to life.
"It's for all the health benefits that it will bring for people as well.
The County Council have made available £200,000 for each district of Cumbria.
