BOSSES at Whitehaven RL will look for 80 minutes of focused play and cohesion on Sunday when the Coach Road side clash with Halifax Panthers.

Whitehaven picked up a second straight win against Swinton Lions at the weekend but coaches at the LEL Arena would still like to see some improvement in their squad’s performances.

Haven put in a strong performance against Swinton but the tide almost turned when the visitors scored three consecutive tries.

Head coach Gary Charlton said: “I think we’re inconsistent – we’re either very good and switch focus or very poor.

“If we put a full 80 minutes together we compete with some of these teams.

“If you give these teams that much ball they’re going to punish you.”

Haven were expecting strong competition from Swinton, who are an established side but have yet to see a win in the Championship.

Charlton said: “They’re fighting for a place. They needed to win, they came out and played some good rugby.”

Charlton’s men worked to win back the lead after half time and take a 36-22 victory.

The clash saw Louis Jouffret make his return to the LEL Arena and Nikau Williams scored his first try for Haven since joining in September.

Haven bosses hope to see their side continue the progression against Halifax Panthers in the Shay Stadium on Sunday.

“I think if we play to the best of our ability and concentrate for 80 minutes we can push these teams really hard.

“I expect our team to go out there and give 100 per cent if we’re playing Toulouse, Swinton or Featherstone.”

The clash kicks off at the earlier time of 1pm to give fans the opportunity to watch the European Championship final.
