THIS month we feature Penrith Show who celebrated raising thousands for next year's show after staging a Grand Draw.

This year's show was forced to cancel due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the show committee decided to stage the event to help raise funds towards next year's show which celebrates 50 years.

Launched over the May Bank Holiday weekend, over £5,000 in prizes were donated by sponsors and local businesses. Tickets were sold by the committee, in shops and outlets in Penrith and Carlisle and Penrith YFC were also involved.

Show Chair Fiona Kidd said “We are very grateful to Penrith Young Farmers Club who really embraced the raffle – selling hundreds of books of tickets for us. We want to say a special thank you to Emily Fisher for organising them, and to Tamara Wilson who sold an impressive 105 books.

“We made our way to the show field for the final draw. There may have been no show, but there was certainly an event with some theatre.”

With three show years of poor weather, combined with two years affected by Covid-19, funds have seriously dwindled.

In total, £11, 195 was raised from the sale of raffle tickets, which, after expenses, raised over £10,000. The money goes into the Society funds to turn a deficit year into a profitable one as they head for their 50th year on the field.
