TWO women from Barrow who posed in pictures alongside former England star Wayne Rooney as he slept in a hotel room have been labelled 'absolutely stupid'.

National newspaper reports claim the pictures were taken after Rooney met Tayler Ryan, Elise Melvin and Brooke Morgan, all of whom are aged 21, on a night out in Manchester at the weekend.

The pictures are thought to have been captured in the city, where the former England captain was seen asleep in a chair in a hotel room with two of the women posing beside him.

Speaking to the national newspaper The Sun, Tayler's mum Angela said: “They thought they were being funny but I’ve told them it was absolutely stupid.

“I feel awful for them but I’m also angry because they’ve been stupid.”

It was initially reported that Rooney had reported the matter to the police and claimed he had been ‘set up’.

However, Greater Manchester police said no report has been made over the incident, and no action is going to be taken.

It is rumoured the pictures were taken at the Staycity Apartments in Manchester on Saturday night.

No comment has been issued by Rooney, who is a married father of four, at this time.

Rooney also has a family connection to Barrow as brother John played for Barrow AFC for two seasons before joining Stockport last summer.

The 35-year-old is currently the manager of Championship club Derby County but made his name as a footballer in the Premier League with Everton then Manchester United, being hailed as one of the brightest rising stars.

A glittering career at Old Trafford saw him win the domestic top flight five times and the Champions League and FA Cup once each.

He returned to Everton in 2017 before moving to the MLS where he played for DC United, only to find himself back in England with the Rams, first as a player then as boss.

Rooney is also England's second-most-capped player and all-time record goalscorer, with 120 caps and 53 goals.
