WINDERMERE SCHOOL
After thousands of teenagers across the UK received their A-level results last week, Windermere School’s Year 13 average score was the equivalent of A*AA at A level in their IB results.
The 2021 school average IB Diploma score of 36 points was the best result in the school’s history and corresponds to A*AA at A-level. The scores earned Windermere students a place in the top 12 per cent of the world’s IB candidates. Local candidate Grace King achieved 45 points, the maximum that can be awarded, which is equivalent to five A*s at A-level.
This incredible achievement places Grace in the top one per cent of candidates around the world. 36 per cent of pupils achieved 40 points or more, the same as 4A*s at A-level. Jack Keane scored 44 points, equivalent to 4A*and 1 A at A-level, while Emmie Annand, Luey Machell, Rachael Aylmore and William Turner scored the equivalent to 3A*and 2As with 43 points.
Executive headmaster Mr Peter Hogan said: “Windermere School is rightly able to place itself among the top IB schools in the UK following these results. The IB prepares students for success at university by encouraging breadth and independent thought.
"I am delighted by the world class achievements of Year 13 and their teachers who have all shown incredible motivation and resilience during these challenging times.”
Windermere School is an award-winning institution, having been awarded the accolade of The Sunday Times IB School of the Year 2018.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) is highly sought after by leading universities across the world and Sixth Form pupils at Windermere School study the course as an alternative to A-levels.
