Penrith returned to winning ways with an excellent victory over West Allotment Celtic - who became the latest club to pay tribute to legendary mascot Bradley Hodgson.

A Connor Shields hat-trick earned Dave Hewson's side a 3-1 win at Frenchfield Park.

It took the Bonny Blues up to sixth in the fledgling Northern League Division One table.

And popular and long-serving mascot Bradley received his fifth commemorative shirt in as many games from Penrith's opponents.

News that this season will be his last as Penrith's mascot has not gone unnoticed in the Northern League.

Ashington, Whitley Bay, Guisborough and North Shields all brought specially-produced shirts to their respective games with Penrith this season.

And West Allotment followed suit, presenting Bradley with one of their kits, with 'Bradley 17' on the back.

Captain Michael Scott handed over the shirt before the game.

It is the latest example of the kindness of the non-league community towards Bradley.

The 24-year-old, who has Down's Syndrome and has played for the England Mencap team, is stepping down after 17 years as mascot because he wants someone younger to have the chance.

The well-known Penrith fan interviewed manager Hewson and hat-trick hero Shields after Saturday's game.

Hewson told him: "I thought it was deserved - we worked really hard and I can't fault the players' effort."

Penrith go to Redcar Athletic on Wednesday and Hewson added: "We will go there full of confidence and look to try and get another win."

Shields, meanwhile, praised the efforts of his team-mates when talking to Bradley at full-time.

"They were probably the easiest three goals I've scored," he said of his second-half treble.
