COMEDIAN Paul Merton and his partner Suki Webster stopped off in the Lakes for some world-famous mint cake on their TV travels.

The Have I Got News For You star and comedian Suki were in the Lake District as part of their Motorhoming With Merton & Webster TV show.

Their Channel 5 programme sees Paul and Suki living and travelling in their motorhome ‘Millie’.

In an episode aired on Friday, August 14, the pair visited attractions across Kendal and the Lakes.

At the start of the programme Paul and Suki made their way to Kendal visiting the famous mint factory.

Paula Barron, wife of managing director, John Barron, who’s great grandfather started production of Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake nearly 100 years ago said: “We were contacted by the production team about them touring round the Lake District in a camper van for the first time.

“They’ve never been in a camper before or the Lake District so it’s a whole new experience to them.

“It was about them experiencing it for the first time and coming to the factory, seeing how mint cake is made.

“Unfortunately they didn’t show the production process. The programme didn’t allow to put everything in, they were here for two hours so didn’t show the extent of it.

“They were lovely, they were really interested in our businesses and the fact it’s a fourth generation business and the background and how mint cake came about – they really enjoyed it.

“They loaded with loads of mint cake – they didn’t take quite as much, but we did gift them some nice selection of mint cake that I’m sure they will chomp their way through and the production crew.

‘They couldn’t get enough of it.”

In the remainder of the episode Paul and Suki hitched a ride on Windermere ferry and took a hike at Grasmere.

Their last stop saw them paddling in Derwentwater
