A MAN has admitted he doctored a photograph and falsely nominated another person when asked to identify the driver of a speeding north Cumbrian car.

Michael Bromley, 55, appeared over a video link when his case was heard at Carlisle Crown Court this morning.

Bromley pleaded guilty to one charge of doing acts tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice.

This occurred on dates between May 10, 2020, and March 24 this year.

Court papers show that he falsely nominated another person as the driver of a Mercedes vehicle on an official document; and edited a photograph of that Mercedes “in an attempt to distinguish the offending vehicle”.

Bromley had been sent paperwork asking him to identify the driver of a vehicle which had been caught speeding on the A69 at Low Row, east of Carlisle.

His case was adjourned by Judge Nicholas Barker. Bromley’s barrister had asked for sentencing to be postponed while the probation service preparation a pre-sentence report, and said his solicitors would also be ordering a psychiatric report to assist his mitigation.

Bromley, of Hadrian Court, Ponteland, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was granted bail, is due to be sentenced on November 29 and was told he must attend court for that hearing.
