A heartfelt tribute has been paid to a well-known Whitehaven florist who was there for people "at the most important times in their lives".

Jeff Crowe, who owned the Flowers N Foliage shop in the market place, passed away at home on October 2.

His son, Jason Crowe, has paid tribute to his late father, who was a florist in the town for more than 35 years.

Jason said: "My dad will be missed by many people in the town.

"He was a proud pillar of the community and was there for people at the most important times in their lives - be it a wedding, christening or funeral."

Jason recalled the lengths his father would go to for his customers ahead of their special occasions.

He said: "When he had a big job or a tight schedule he would sleep on a mattress on the shop floor in the freezing cold to make sure that he got the flowers ready in time for the customer's big occasion.

"Every bride to be was 'his bride' and he tried to make them feel special."

Mr Crowe was also well-known by dog-walkers in the town.

Jason said: "Almost everyone with a dog will know my dad as he used to carry dog treats everywhere so he could make a fuss of the dogs he would meet.

"He was immensely proud of his work and the people of the town and a humble man who lived a simple life.

"For over thirty five years my dad served the people of Whitehaven as a florist and he loved the people the county and the lovely Cumbrian accent."
