A FOOTPATH has been closed as work progresses to build a new bridge.

Cumbria County Council has warned that the footpath through Gooseholme Park in Kendal will be closed from today as part of ongoing works to build the £2m replacement footbridge.

The new single span bridge-which is being delivered by Story Contracting- will be fully accessible to all bridge users and wider than the original footbridge to provide shared access for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users.

A Cumbria County Council spokesman said: “Access to the park will still be available, but there will be no through route.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and support while we make improvements to the bridge for use in the future.”
