HER Majesty The Queen celebrated her 96th birthday today with two white Fell Ponies - and Appleby based Fell Pony Society could not be more proud!
The Queen has been the patron for the Fell Pony’s Society since 1982.
The Appleby based society said The Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh had been great ambassadors of the breed and have helped raise the profile of these exclusive ponies.
The Society say they are “delighted that the Queen has chosen two Fell Ponies for her photographs."
They believe it will encourage people to get involved with the Fell Ponies and understand more about them as many people thought they were only black.
The Society has many exciting events coming up to mark their centenarian year including a parade for the Queen.
“Celebrations begin at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on May 13 where Fell ponies will parade in front of Her Majesty.
On the May 14 the FPS Stallion & Colt Show at Dalemain, Ullswater, will include a Centenary display by the Society’s Display Team and the official launch of the Society’s ‘100 Mile Centenary Challenge’. There will be a parade of stallions, including past show winners.”
They hope that these events will be an opportunity to provide on-going education on the breed standard and the heritage of the Fell Pony.
