Cumbria Tourism will be among the organisations taking part in the upcoming Carlisle Jobs Fair on Thursday 14 July, giving jobseekers of all ages the chance to talk directly to prospective employers and training providers across some of Cumbria’s key industries.

The event will take place at Carlisle College from 10am until 1pm and there will be a range of jobs, training, apprenticeships and other opportunities on offer. It will be hosted by the Department of Work and Pensions in collaboration with a range of partners including Cumbria Tourism, Carlisle College and the Federation of Small Businesses.

Although the Jobs Fair will encompass a wide range of industry sectors, Cumbria Tourism will be specifically promoting the range of jobs roles available in tourism and hospitality.

Head of Partnerships & Projects at Cumbria Tourism, Rachel Tyson, says, “Our tourism industry contributes £2.63 billion to the local economy and supports almost 32,000 full time jobs.

"However, many people don’t realise the sheer diversity and flexibility of the professional roles on offer, from graphic designers, marketing experts and financial advisers to landscape gardeners, tour guides and park rangers. The list goes on.

“As the county’s Destination Management Organisation, we are working closely with education providers from across Cumbria – and a range of innovative and dynamic employers eager to invest in staff development - to dispel some of the misconceptions about working in this hugely diverse sector.

“Just last week we were representing the tourism industry at the Inspiring Eden Jobs Fair. It also follows hot on the heels of successful events in Kendal and Barrow.

"This ongoing activity is all about opening people’s eyes not just to the variety of current job vacancies but also the opportunities to gain direct industry experience, train on the job and potentially progress into senior positions.

“What’s really special about events like the Carlisle Jobs Fair is that they are open to anyone, whether that’s someone on the lookout for a potential part-time role or searching for a new long-term career.

"Or it may be someone who’s toying with the idea of a job move in the near future, but is unsure how to make the next step.

"With direct access to expert advice in a friendly and informal setting, this is the ideal place to start.”

Rachel adds, “Of course, tourism will be just one of the key sectors under the spotlight at the event on 14 July, with a range of other employers, training providers recruitment agencies and other support organisations also attending on the day.

“We’re committed to working closer with a range of organisations to help support and retain local talent and collectively, help make the Cumbrian economy more sustainable for the future.”
