THE NORTH of England's gas supplier will be carrying out works to ensure both safe and reliable supply of gas continues within Whitehaven.

Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will be replacing ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes, to customers in Flatt Walks and Catherine Street within the town.

The work will start on July 25 and is expected to last for 16 weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Cumbria County Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place during the works.

A one-way system be present along Flatt Walks and Lowther Street during the works due to a single lane closure.

Dean Fuller, business operations lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: "We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Whitehaven.

"We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible," he said.
