THE results are in for a community music competition that allowed for young budding artists to compete for a full music package, including a front stage spot in the upcoming Solfest 2022. 

At the sold-out Teens That Rock 2022 event, Hannah McMillan, from Kirkby-Stephen, wowed the judges with an elegant and soulful piano and vocal composition of her own - earning the young artist stage spots at Solfest and at the Old Fire Station as well as the backing to create her own music video.

The event, which was held at Carlisle College of the Arts on July 4, was led by the college's tutor of music and performance, Anna Atkinson.

Anna said she was "incredibly proud" of all the artists that competed. 

"It was an absolutely amazing night and everything went really smoothly. There was a great and diverse range of musical talent on the stage," she said.

The band King Street and solo singer Grace Savage were crowned runners-up on the night. 

"What came of it which was really nice, even though Hannah got the full-package, Solfest has also offered the opportunity for other acts they liked on the night. 

"The judges said they were really keen to support events like this and spoke about how they were so supportive of the Cumbrian music scene and wanted it to flourish," she said.

Eight artists took to the stage in front of a high-roster of judging talent, including a member of Hardwicke Circus on the evening. 

On the judging table included Chris Morris, team manager at Carlisle College of the Arts; Will Morgan, manager of the Old Fire Station; Jonny Foster from Hardwicke Circus; Chloe Clark-Haywood stage manager at Solfest Music festival and Emma Dockeray from the local band Flynt.

Anna gave thanks to Carlisle College for all their support in helping to get the community-based event up and running.
