A CARLISLE man has been fined after magistrates convicted him of assaulting a woman.
Michael Marwood, 34, had pleaded not guilty to an assault by beating, committed in Penrith on April 23, according to the prosecution. He argued his case during at trial at Carlisle’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, of Heskpeck Raise, Durranhill, was found guilty.
Magistrates fined him £180, with costs of £150 – higher because prosecutors prepared the case for the trial. Marwood must also pay a £34 victim surcharge. No compensation was ordered because none was requested and no injury was caused.
The defendant was represented by defence lawyer John Smith.
