The historic Glenridding Hotel will soon undergo a transformation and emerge as The Ullswater Inn after a refurbishment by The Inn Collection Group.

The hotel, located on the shores of Ullswater and at the foot of Helvellyn, has been undergoing renovations since January, including the addition of more rooms and the reworking of public areas to create a cozy, traditional pub atmosphere.

The Inn Collection Group is following its established brand style for their Lake District locations, creating a new shield for The Ullswater Inn that incorporates a blue and white 'waves' motif seen in their other properties.

The right side of the shield features a silhouette of Striding Edge and Helvellyn, along with a design of a lake and sailing boat.

The left side of the shield has a chevron design inspired by the historical Westmorland coat of arms, consisting of red stripes.

Dating back to the 1860s, The Ullswater Inn has had a significant role in the history of the region, including serving as a base for Donald Campbell during his successful World Water Speed record attempt in 1955.

The group acquired the hotel in 2022 and has partnered with national architects GSSArchitecture to sensitively upgrade and improve the historic building for a sustainable future.

The existing bedrooms will undergo alterations, and the spa area will be removed to create more bed spaces.

These upgrades will bring the total number of rooms from 36 to 57.

Brand manager for The Inn Collection Group, Megan Dryden, expressed excitement about the new identity and refurbishment of The Ullswater Inn.

She said: “We’re excited to confirm the new identity of The Ullswater Inn as works on its refurbishment continue to transform this historic venue in beautiful Glenridding.

"We have embraced the style, look and feel that customers have grown accustomed to across our Inns around the Lake District but also created something fresh and individual to Ullswater.

“We can’t wait until the renovations are complete and we can unveil the new look and refreshed premises later this year.”
