SAM Hird's red card against Morecambe has been successfully appealed.

Barrow AFC have received a boost ahead of their League Two fixture against Salford City on Saturday.

This follows as the club were successful in their appeal of Sam Hird’s suspension.

The central defender will now be free to play against The Ammies at Holker Street.

Hird was sent-off 15 minutes into The Bluebirds’ game at Morecambe last Tuesday.

The 33-year-old was adjudged to have denied a goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball.

Barrow were already 1-0 down against their local rivals when Hird was dismissed.

However, this sending off severely hampered David Dunn’s side from getting back into the game, as they succumbed to a sixth league defeat at The Matzuma Stadium.

Following the game, Dunn immediately signalled his intention to appeal against the decision.

The Football Association confirmed on Thursday that the club’s appeal was upheld.

Tuesday’s defeat means that The Bluebirds have only picked up two wins in 15 games since their return to the Football League.

Both of Barrow’s league wins came against sides who finished the game with ten men.

The club’s poor form has seen Dunn's side slip down the table into 21st.

Barrow are now only one point away from the relegation zone.
